About Vikki...

Hi, I'm Vikki.

Endlessly curious about people, perspectives and what else might be possible.

Welcome to my slightly less than linear path to Rough Diamond Creative.

A little about me...

I've spent more than thirty years working with people across leadership, business, disability, mental health and community services.

The job titles changed. The environments changed. The people certainly changed.

My curiosity didn't.

I've always been fascinated by people. What makes us think the way we think? Why can two people experience the same situation completely differently? Where do our patterns come from? And perhaps most importantly, what becomes possible when we look at something from another perspective?

That curiosity eventually led me to hypnotherapy and NLP, but the philosophy behind Rough Diamond Creative began long before either of them entered the picture.

It began with a Rough Diamond.

Where the Rough Diamond began

Many years ago, my beautiful Aunty Marg looked at me with that particular combination of love and knowing that only someone who truly sees you can manage and said:

“Vikki, you're our Rough Diamond.”

She wasn't talking about jewellery.

She was talking about me.

The words stayed.

Years later, they would become the name of a business, a philosophy and eventually a way of describing something I'd been noticing about people for most of my life.

A rough diamond doesn't need to become valuable.

The value is already there.

Sometimes it simply takes another perspective to see it.

The road here wasn't exactly straight

My working life has taken me through leadership, sales, business development, disability, mental health and community services.

On paper, some of those worlds look completely unrelated.

To me, there has always been a common thread.

People.

I've spent decades listening to people, leading people, supporting people through change, having difficult conversations, solving problems and watching what happens when someone begins to believe that another outcome might actually be possible.

Alongside that professional life came my own experiences, travel, creativity, loss, change, spirituality, a healthy amount of questioning and enough rabbit holes to keep me entertained for several lifetimes.

Somewhere along the way I realised that I wasn't particularly interested in finding the answer.

I became much more interested in finding another perspective.

Curiosity eventually led me here

Hypnotherapy and NLP gave me another language for something I'd been exploring for years.

How do our thoughts, language, experiences and associations influence what we notice and how we respond?

What happens when an automatic pattern becomes something we can become curious about?

And what resources might already exist within someone that they simply aren't accessing in that particular moment?

That's what interests me.

I don't approach Discovery with a predetermined answer about who you are or who you should become.

We begin with where you are now, what you'd like to experience instead, and curiosity about what might sit between the two.

Then we explore.

The Rough Diamond perspective

I don't believe there is one perspective from which we must understand ourselves.

A diamond changes as the light, environment and position of the observer change.

People are infinitely more complex.

We don't control every circumstance around us. We can learn to navigate it. And we have more than one facet available for the journey.

For me, Discovery isn't about creating a different person.

It's about increasing awareness, expanding choice and becoming curious about the resources, perspectives and possibilities already available.

Sometimes the question isn't:

“What's wrong with me?”

Perhaps a more useful question is:

“What haven't I discovered yet?”
