How to Work with Your Mala & Crystal Care Guide

Welcome to your journey with your Rough Diamond Creative mala, necklace or other.

Each piece is crafted with intention, respect, and reverence — designed to support your inner alignment, grounding, and conscious practice.

This guide will help you connect, care, and work with your mala and crystals, nurturing a lasting relationship with your tools.

1️⃣ How to Use Your Mala

A mala is a sacred tool, not just jewellery. It can support meditation, intention setting, prayer, spiritual growth, physical growth or reflective practice.

Simple Steps:

  1. Set an intention before you begin.

    • Take a moment to breathe and focus on what you wish to invite into your life.

    • Example: “I invite clarity and alignment today,” or “I honour my own healing journey.”

  2. Choose a method:

    • Mantra repetition: Move each bead through your fingers as you repeat your mantra or affirmation.

    • Meditation: Hold the mala in your hand or drape it over your heart, allowing it to anchor your focus.

    • Mindful breathing: Use each bead as a pause point to inhale and exhale deeply.

  3. Start at the guru bead (the larger bead or marker) and move clockwise.

  4. Do not cross over the guru bead — this marks the completion of one cycle.

  5. Store with respect when not in use — do not place it on the floor or below feet or expose it to direct sunlight for prolonged periods.

💡 Tip: Your practice is personal. Your mala can hold your intentions for years, evolving- as you do.

2️⃣ Cleansing Your Mala

Crystals absorb energy from their environment. Cleansing allows you to refresh the energy and maintain alignment.

Safe Methods for Your Mala:

  • Moonlight: Place overnight under a full or new moon.

  • Sound: Gently use a singing bowl, chime, or bell.

  • Smudging: Use sage, palo santo, or incense to pass the beads through smoke.

  • Visualisation: Hold the mala and imagine a clear, white light cleansing each bead.

⚠️ Avoid: Direct sunlight for extended periods (some stones may fade), or submerging porous beads in water.

3️⃣ Charging & Activating

To charge or activate your mala, you can:

  • Hold it in your hands while setting intentions.

  • Place it on a natural surface (wood, stone, grass or soil) to connect with the Earth.

  • Use sound or vibration (such as singing bowls or chanting).

Every mala from Rough Diamond Creative is already cleansed, charged, and activated upon delivery — but you are encouraged to reconnect with it energetically whenever you feel drawn to.

4️⃣ Storing & Handling

  • Store in a soft pouch, wooden box, or cloth bag.

  • Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals, perfumes, and water whenever possible.

  • Treat it as a sacred companion, not casual jewellery.

💡 Tip: Periodically revisit your mala — hold it, feel the energy, and reset intentions as needed.

5️⃣ Caring for Individual Crystals

Each stone has unique properties. Here’s a general guide:

Crystal Type Cleansing Charging
Quartz Moonlight, sound, visualisation Sunlight (short), Earth
Amethyst Smudging, moonlight Moonlight, intention
Rose Quartz Moonlight, gentle water rinse Heart intention, Earth
Howlite / Turquoise Smudging, visualisation Earth, gentle sun

⚠️ Remember: Some beads may be heat-treated or dyed. Their energetic properties are respected, but they require gentle handling.

6️⃣ Your Relationship With the Mala

Your mala is a living spiritual companion. Over time:

  • Its energy may deepen with your practice.

  • It may remind you of intentions you set months or years ago.

  • It can be a mirror for your inner work, supporting your ongoing journey with self, Gaia, and Source.

💎 Treat it with care, patience, and gratitude — it holds space for you to return home, over and over again.
